"She Who Toots Her Own Horn Controls The Volume”
12x12in Mixed Media; vintage 1950s Balenciaga fashion magazine, acrylic, paint pen, resin, and dried flowers on canvas in a natural solid wood float frame
Artwork Description:
This mixed media artwork is a vibrant tribute to self-advocacy and to the incomparable Ashley Longshore.
Created with vintage 1950s Balenciaga fashion clippings, acrylic paint, oil-based paint pen, resin, and dried flowers, each layer is an exploration of confidence, creativity, and owning your voice.
Ashley has long been an inspiration to me; a self-taught artist who built a world that screams unapologetically HER: bold, unapologetic, and full of heart. When I visited her NYC gallery, it felt like stepping into a celebration of individuality and joy.
The quote, originally from Ashley’s dad, instantly resonated with me. I’ve started collecting quotes that light me up and weaving them into my art as reminders of strength, humor, and perspective.
This piece is for anyone learning to turn up the volume on their own story; to speak boldly, create freely, and celebrate the voices that inspire them.
